Goddess Isis

Isis, Queen of Upper and Lower Egypt, was the beloved wife of the great Osiris, and mother of Horus. The ancient Egyptians revered her as the Great Mother of the Universe, and she was later worshipped by the Greeks and Romans.

She was the goddess of magical spells, the mother of celestial beings, the mistress of words of enchantment, goddess of the essences of herbs and animals. Isis was claimed to be "She who comes to the aid of the suffering, and with them suffered." She lived in the form of a woman and possessed the knowledge of words of power. She made herself a mighty goddess by learning the sacred name of the one holy God.

Isis is always pictured wearing the Sudanese cow-goddess Hathor headdress and carrying the ankh, symbolizing eternal life.
